The Morning Train

A Photocollage Monoprint

The Morning train is a piece that references the term used for those using the underground railroad. It’s the train that led to freedom under oppression and bondage. I pair image transfers of working ancestors on plantations against bright hues of red, yellow, and mica powder to represent the days they looked forward to and fought for every day and the blood and pain they have suffered along the way. Their work, hope, and continuous fight are the reason I’m even alive. I take my work as preservation of their stories and bring them back to the collective memory.
