MINOR DEMONS

A Title & Intertitle Design Project

Minor Demons is a short film written and directed by Kearra Amaya Gopee. The film is centered around familial grief, loss, and the Scotts’ drug report. This film is based on Kearra’s real life and is a reflection of their own inner demons. The Scott Drug Report was a landmark 1986 investigative commission in Trinidad and Tobago, led by former Justice of Appeal Garvin Scott, into the extent of drug abuse and narco-corruption. Kearra’s dad was framed within this report, thus fleeing Trinidad for New York. In this film, Kearra investigates their relationship with their father and this report. I had the pleasure of designing Titles, Intertitles, and Credits for this film. I incorporated custom textures, calligraphy, hand lettering, animation, and graphics from the report. I used all these elements within the project to truly
tell this story.

THE PROCESS

The title for this film was a mix of traditional and digital sketches. Combining my calligraphy work with digital hand lettering, then scanned it in to create a raw and real texture to the work. The lettering aims to feel gothic, ghostly, and a bit rugged. We went through multiple rounds & options till we landed on what felt right.
