JITS OF THE GRASS & SUN

A Photocollage screenprint

is a photographic, printmaking, and collage-based work that considers landscape  & plant life as both witness and archive. Rooted in my experience living on both ends of the Mississippi River, the piece reflects on movement, memory, and the histories embedded within land across the American Midwest. The river becomes both a geographic marker and a metaphor holding stories of migration, labor, displacement, and Black life. Through layered archival & newly taken photography collaged together, I use the natural world as a way of tracing what remains. Grasses, sunlight, soil, and water become carriers of memory, holding the residue of both presence and absence. The work is rooted in my belief that matter never disappears. It shifts, transforms, and continues. Our bodies return to the earth, becoming part of the landscape and living on through root systems, waterways, light, and air. I am interested in how the land carries this continuity, holding both memory and material across generations.
